EM + GPR Locating · For foundation, piling & shoring crews
EM + GPR utility locating for foundation & piling contractors.
Piles and foundation excavations go deep and hit hard — the two qualities that turn an unknown utility into a serious incident. Deep work also reaches lines that shallow locates and assumptions miss, and on infill and redevelopment sites the ground is full of legacy services nobody documented. Clearing to depth before the rig sets up is foundational, in every sense.

We provide depth-aware clearance for deep work: dual-method EM + GPR location, depth estimates at the pile and excavation locations, sonde tracing of non-metallic lines, and potholing coordination at the conflicts — so your rig works a cleared, documented site instead of a hopeful one.
What foundation & piling contractors hit
- Deep utilities beyond shallow-locate assumptions
- Legacy and abandoned services on redevelopment sites
- Pile locations landing on unmarked crossings
- High-force, high-consequence strikes from rigs
- Non-conductive lines missed by EM-only clearance
How we fit your workflow
- Depth-aware EM + GPR clearance at pile and dig locations
- Depth estimates where the foundation work reaches
- Sonde and GPR for non-metallic and legacy lines
- Potholing coordination at the critical conflicts

Does locating even reach pile depth?
Locating reaches as deep as the lines you need to clear are buried — and crucially, the conflicts that matter for piling are usually the utilities the piles cross on the way down, not just what's at final depth. We locate and depth-estimate those crossings, confirm the critical ones with GPR, and recommend potholing where the margin is tight. For deep, high-consequence work, that depth-aware clearance plus potholing is the standard.
How do you handle redevelopment sites full of old services?
Carefully and with both methods, because legacy and abandoned lines are exactly what EM-only or assumption-based clearance misses. GPR images what isn't carrying a signal, EM traces what is, sonde follows the non-metallic drains, and anything ambiguous gets flagged for potholing. Old sites reward thoroughness; we treat 'the drawings say nothing's here' as a hypothesis to test, not a fact to trust.
Can you give our engineers depth data for design?
Yes — pile and foundation design needs utility depths at the work locations, and we capture and document them (estimated by EM, confirmed by GPR, potholed where critical). For projects that require formal accuracy, our subsurface utility engineering service delivers data to defined SUE quality levels your engineers can design and stamp against.
