Drone Leak Investigation · All property types · All of BC

The leak investigation that sees the whole property at once.

Buried water mains. Reservoirs and dams. District energy loops. Podium decks, irrigation networks, pipelines, and entire building portfolios after a storm. Radiometric thermal and RTK aerial mapping find where water is escaping across hectares in a single flight — and the same company's ground crews, pinpointing BC leaks since 1999, confirm every finding to repair-ready accuracy.

Water infrastructure & municipal services

The government-and-utility core of the practice: the buried, embanked, and elevated water assets every BC community owns — screened from the air, confirmed on the ground.

Commercial, industrial & specialist services

From podium decks over parkades to pipeline rights-of-way — each service carries its own methodology, FAQs, and dedicated pages for all 47 BC cities.

Institutional & Campus

District Energy & Buried Heat Loop Survey

Buried hot-water and steam distribution mapped by thermal drone — line losses, failed insulation, and active leaks on district energy systems, hospital and university campuses, found from the air in a single evening flight.

Irrigation System Leak Mapping

Golf courses, sports fields, parks, and agricultural operations — buried irrigation leaks, broken laterals, and chronic overwatering zones mapped across the whole property in one flight instead of weeks of walking.

Podium & Plaza Deck Leak Investigation

Podium decks, plaza membranes, planters, and amenity terraces over occupied space — the leak paths that drip into parkades and units below, mapped thermally from above before anyone lifts a single paver.

Post-Storm Portfolio Leak Assessment

After an atmospheric river, windstorm, or freeze event — every roof and site in your portfolio triaged by drone in days, damage and active water entry documented while the evidence is fresh and the insurer's clock is running.

Aerial Moisture Orthomosaic Mapping

The deliverable layer: survey-grade, georeferenced moisture orthomosaics — radiometric thermal fused with RTK photogrammetry — exported to CAD and GIS for engineers, consultants, and owners who need leak evidence they can measure from.

From first call to repair-ready coordinates

  1. 1

    Scope by phone

Five minutes: property, symptoms, access, airspace. A firm quote and the right survey design — or honest advice that a ground crew alone is the better fit.

  2. 2

    Fly the survey

Transport Canada-certified pilots fly the mission in the contrast window the method needs — radiometric thermal plus RTK visual, no scaffolds, no shutdowns, no tenant disruption.

  3. 3

    Analyse & rank

Anomalies screened against innocent explanations, classified, and ranked. You get a mapped suspect list — not a hard drive of pretty pictures.

  4. 4

    Confirm on the ground

Our own crews acoustically confirm, probe, or flood-test the zones that matter, then mark and document to repair-ready accuracy. One company, one accountable report.

Drone leak investigation, answered

What is drone leak investigation?

The use of radiometric thermal imaging and high-resolution aerial mapping to find where properties and infrastructure are losing water — buried mains, dams and reservoirs, heating loops, roofs and decks, irrigation networks, pipelines. Escaping water changes how surfaces hold and release heat; a calibrated aerial sensor measures that signature across an entire site in one flight, and ground crews then confirm and pinpoint the ranked suspect zones.

How is this different from regular leak detection?

Scale and sequence, not substitution. Ground-based acoustic, thermal, and tracer methods pinpoint a leak to dig-accuracy — but they need to know roughly where to work. Aerial investigation answers that first question across hectares or kilometres at once, so the precision tools deploy exactly where they pay. Leak.ca operates both layers in-house: one company from first flight to paint mark on the ground.

Which sectors use drone leak investigation most?

Government and municipal owners (water mains, reservoirs, dams, stormwater, civic building portfolios) and commercial owners (office, retail, industrial roofs, podium decks, multi-site portfolios) dominate the work — anywhere assets are too large, too distributed, or too expensive to investigate by foot. Strata corporations, campuses, healthcare, agriculture, and golf operations round out the regular client base.

Is the thermal imaging actually quantitative?

Yes — we fly radiometric sensors (640×512-class, ≤50 mK thermal sensitivity) that record per-pixel temperature data, not just colourful pictures. Anomalies are measured, compared, and documented, and raw radiometric files are preserved so consultants can run independent analysis. RTK positioning puts every finding within centimetres of its true coordinates.

Are your drone operations legal and insured?

Fully. Pilots hold Transport Canada RPAS certification with advanced-operations capability; flights run under the airspace authorizations each location requires, including controlled airspace around YVR, harbour zones, and hospital helipads. Operations are insured and WorkSafe BC compliant — documentation available for procurement and site-access files on request.

What does drone leak investigation cost?

Single-site surveys typically start in the high hundreds; corridor, network, and portfolio programs are quoted by scope and almost always cost a fraction of the exploratory digging, scaffolding, or blanket replacement they displace. Pricing is province-wide — no regional premium anywhere in BC. The free phone consult produces a firm number in about five minutes: 604-239-9934.

Do you only find leaks, or confirm them too?

Both — that is the point of hiring a leak detection company rather than a drone operator. Aerial findings are confirmed by our own ground crews with acoustic correlation, moisture probing, and flood testing as the finding warrants, then delivered as one accountable report with repair-ready locations. We have pinpointed BC leaks since 1999; the drones extend that capability, they don't replace it.

How fast can a survey be scheduled in BC?

Most single-site surveys fly within days, subject to the weather window the method needs (thermal work prefers specific contrast conditions — often evening flights). Portfolio and post-storm programs mobilise on pre-agreed priority lists. Coverage spans all 47 BC cities we serve, Lower Mainland to the North.
