Warped Flooring

Wood and laminate flooring responds dramatically to moisture. When these materials absorb water from below, they expand unevenly, causing cupping, buckling, or warping. This damage is often caused by slab leaks, but can also result from spills, flooding, or high humidity. Finding the moisture source is essential before floor replacement.

Warning Signs

  • Boards cupping (edges higher than center)
  • Buckling or tenting of boards
  • Gaps between boards
  • Soft or spongy feeling
  • Boards lifting from subfloor

Common Causes

  • Slab plumbing leak beneath floor
  • Appliance leak (dishwasher, refrigerator)
  • High humidity and condensation
  • Flooding or spill damage
  • Groundwater intrusion
  • HVAC condensation problems
